As an Architect and Interior Designer, I am passionate about designing habitable and comfortable homes for my clients. With the whole world on pause, and all we hear day in – day out is quarantine, self isolation, lock-down. The only way to keep sane is by staying productive and motivated whilst working from home.
Create a Work Area
The first step is to create a personal workspace for yourself. Choose a quiet place/corner within the home or room to set up a home office. In case there is no room at home, consider using the dining table as a work station.
Make a Schedule
A popular saying goes by ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’. If this isn’t the most accurate in this times. It is important to create a schedule not only to keep your mind occupied, it really helps with the sanity. Divide your day into varied activities and stick to your schedule.
Keeping yourself preoccupied with work is actually a blessing in disguise. But you need to make the other members at home aware that you need to commit to a few hours of work everyday. Let your family know about your work hours so they do not disturb you. Do not get involved in home chores, small talks or other distractions during the office hours.
Achieve a Work-Life Balance
Working from home can become an monotonous and indulging since there is no specific time when you start and end work. This is why, you need to keep in check, how many hours you are putting in on a daily basis. Remember, this is a unique situation and period. Make the most of it by spending as much time relaxing and unwinding with family and loved ones.
Limit Usage of Mobile Phone
COVID-19 updates are happening per minute on social media and various new channels. This is a big psychological distraction for anyone especially those working from home. Therefore, it is advisable to limit your screen time and use your mobile phone only for attending formal calls during office hours.
Make it a point to dress up in anything other than night wear. This will psychologically take you into a work mode.
