Skin-care routines are now serious rituals — how you prep your skin in the mornings and night time is super essential. Whether it’s a quick wash, tone and moisturize or a full 10 step routine, it’s essential! One particularly step not to miss? The art of double cleansing. I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I first heard about the double cleanse, but now it’s the best K-beauty routine backed by science!
WHAT IS DOUBLE CLEANSING
Deeply stemmed from K-beauty skin-care routines — since cleansing your skin at the end of the day is so important. It is extremely important to remove makeup, dirt, and pollutants that have accumulated on your skin during the day, before heading to bed. Sleeping with makeup on or forgetting to rinse your face before bed is a big no-no as it can cause major breakouts. DON’T DO IT SIS!
WHY DOUBLE CLEANSING
So, why make cleansing a two-step process? First up, when you wear foundation, double cleansing scores you a better clean. Double cleansing with a micellar water/oil cleanser/cleansing balm can be helpful to remove the layer of makeup to then let the cleanser truly clean the skin
That makes room for any products you apply afterwards to penetrate deeper, making them more effective. Clean skin will allow active ingredients to penetrate better and work more effectively.
WHEN TO DOUBLE CLEANSE
Even if you don’t wear makeup regularly, it’s still important to make sure you’re double cleansing at the end of the day. It’s important not only to remove makeup, but also dirt, sunblock, sebum and pollution that accumulates on our skin during the day. Not only do these damage to the skin, but they contribute to the breakdown of collagen and development of wrinkles and sun burns
HOW TO DOUBLE CLEANSE
First, you use an oil-based cleanser like the DHC Oil Cleaner or the Banila Co Cleansing Balm to wipe off makeup and oil buildup. Using an oil-based cleanser, will gently remove the makeup and oils. Oil attracts oil and most makeup/sunscreen products are oil based. Gently wipe or rinse them off leaving the natural hydrating oils behind. These products break down the sebum of the skin and makeup.
After the first step has removed any makeup and impurities, step two involves a good lathering cleanser like the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser and water. To get deeper into the pores and cleanse any remnant dirt.
- Be sure to rinse off/wipe off each step of cleansing
- The oil cleansing step doesn’t lather in most cases
- Obey the 60 second washing rule to ensure optimum product penetration
