Holidays can undo healthy habits. Trust me I know this story a little too well. I like so many other struggle to be disciplined especially during the holidays.

From now until New Year’s Day, your schedule will likely be filled with family responsibilities, traveling and festive outings with all sorts of tempting treats. There would always still be plenty of opportunities to overindulge. It’s no surprise that many of us see our waistlines expand during the holiday season.

But this year can be different.

To help keep us on track, I’ve enlisted some tips I personally use

Schedule time to work out. As much as the the holiday season is very busy. You would schedule time for a meeting at work or holiday shopping, when you make time on your calendar for exercise, it’s more likely to happen. Review your week ahead and figure out the most practical times to exercise, such as in the morning before the day gets away from you or last thing at night.

Find creative ways to be active. There are ways to squeeze in fitness that don’t have to be a traditional workout. When holiday shopping, park a bit farther away from the mall so you’re forced to walk more. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Bundle up and take a walk with your family to look at the lights. Build physical activity into your holiday traditions.

Hydrate and eat sensibly. Eating well is part of staying fit. You don’t have abstain completely from your favorite seasonal treats, just watch your portion sizes. Try to sneak in vegetables when and where you can. Drink plenty of water, especially alongside alcohol. Eat something small before you head to that holiday party so you won’t arrive on an empty stomach and make bad choices. Also wearing waist trainer reminds you when you’ve eaten too much.
